CHOOSE YOUR TREATMENT Buttock Enhancement Surgery AKA: Butt Lift/Buttock Lift/Buttock Implants/Brazilian Bum Lift. Rare is the person who is totally happy with the shape and size of their bum, and with celebrities like
Beyoncé and Rhianna shaking their booty all over ourTV screens, is it any wonder we’ve been inspired to do something about it? Thankfully we’re not short of ways to deal with the problem - whether your bottom is too big, too small, too saggy or even too square, these days there is a procedure to help.
Who does it? Who is suitable?
● Plastic Surgeon ● Cosmetic Doctor
There are surgical and non-surgical options to deal with most of the problems above, so a thorough consultation is important to assess which is the most suitable procedure for you, but generally if you are unhappy with the size or shape of your behind, and you have tried unsuccessfully to change it through diet and exercise, you may be a good candidate for buttock enhancement.
Often, those who are unhappy with the shape of their buttocks find, during consultation with a surgeon, that in fact the problem can be resolved through judicious liposuction of the surrounding area, rather than treatment to the buttocks themselves.
What’s the treatment like?
If you want to reduce the size of your bum, you might find that your best option is Liposuction (p 101), and for a posterior that’s only slightly sagging, your problem could be solved with Body Sculpting - Energy Assisted (p 58). For a small, flat bum, which you want to make fuller, Body Fillers (p 56) or FatTransfer (p 92) are often the best options, but you can also have buttock implants if you wish.
To insert the buttock implants, which are usually made from a firm silicone gel, the surgeon will make an incision in the crease beneath the buttock, which will be closed with stitches once the implants are in
place. As with a breast augmentation, the implants can be placed either above or below the muscle, depending on the shape you wish to achieve.
The next big thing?
Miami, rather than LA, is often seen as the plastic surgery capital of the US, particularly when it comes to body procedures and now it finally has an op named after it: the MiamiThong Lift.Miami-based surgeon, Constantino Mendieta, has presented his new treatment, which promises a curvy and pert behind, to the
conference of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).
Mendieta takes fat from the stomach and the thigh and then inserts it into the buttocks (any scars are in the 'thong' area, hence the name).
The Cosmetic Surgery Guide 69
For a severely sagging bottom, a buttock lift is probably the best
option. This involves incisions being made in the upper part of the buttocks, excess fat and skin being excised, and the muscles adjusted before the incision site is closed with stitches.
Both buttock implant and buttock lift surgery can be performed under either general anaesthetic or an epidural and take up to two hours.
What happens afterwards?
Recovery from surgery to the buttocks can be tricky as you are advised not to sit for a week following the procedure. Normal activities can usually be resumed after about four weeks, but you might find it is difficult to do anything at all for several days as just walking around has a huge impact on the buttocks.
You should wear a compression garment after buttock implants to aid the healing process, and swelling and bruising should subside within a few weeks.
Will I have a scar?
Both buttock implants and buttock lift surgery will leave you with a scar – the scars from buttock implants tend to be hidden in the crease beneath the buttocks, however, and those from a buttock lift, at the top of the buttocks, can usually be hidden with underwear.
Cost From £5,000 to £7,000
A buttock lift usually costs around £5,000. Buttock implants are more expensive and can cost anything from about £7,000.
