FEATURE Vision In Focus Tired of reading with glasses? The KAMRA inlay is the breakthrough solution
you have been waiting for. Dr David Allamby at Focus Clinics explains how this new treatment can turn back the years and protect you from visual aging.
In the UK alone more than 20 million people need to wear glasses for every near task they do, such as reading a newspaper, checking a text message or reading a label while shopping. For many people reading glasses are inconvenient, annoying when forgotten, and can age you
drastically. At Focus Clinics we have the perfect solution to help you banish those ‘granny glasses’ for good.
The KAMRA inlay procedure is a powerful treatment for ‘presbyopia‘, the medical term for the age-related loss of near vision resulting in the need for reading glasses. KAMRA is both simple and sophisticated in how it can produce clear vision for all distances, from far to near.
KAMRA eye surgery involves inserting a KAMRA inlay within the cornea of one
eye.The treatment is very quick and often the procedure is combined with a small amount of laser treatment for the correction of any distance vision problems as well, with results that patients often describe as ‘life-changing’.
The entire procedure takes around 10-15 minutes for both eyes. First a femtosecond laser creates a small flap in the
cornea. This is then lifted, the LASIK correction is carried out by our advancedWavelight laser and finally the KAMRA inlay is
inserted. The flap is folded back and the treatment is complete.
You’ll need to allow at least two hours on the treatment day at our clinic as we scan your eyes to check everything is OK before the treatment and of course check you after the treatment is finished.
The KAMRA inlay is a tiny device only 3.8mm in diameter. It’s smaller than a contact lens, lighter than a grain of salt and is virtually invisible when inserted. KAMRA offers effortless natural vision – by having the inlay implanted you will be able to have great near vision for reading menus, text messages plus intermediate vision for many real-life situations such as conversations and computer monitors. Amazingly you will also retain your distance vision. For the first time ever there is a definitive treatment for reading vision problems that have been the bane of so many people’s lives for so long.
The KAMRA corneal inlay itself is an opaque disc with The Cosmetic Surgery Guide 17 beforehand, but it went so
fast.The doctor said
it took four minutes for the one eye and eight for the second eye, but it went really quickly and it wasn’t painful at all.
“ I could read a newspaper, I could read text,
the television was much clearer, travelling was much easier, I could read the underground map without putting my glasses on. It’s perfect.

a tiny opening of only 1.6mm in the
