Botox
Botox is the leading non-surgical aesthetic treatment in the UK and its popularity shows no sign of fading. A recent innovation from one manufacturer now means that your love for that magic wrinkle eraser can happily co-exist with your stance on animal cruelty.
Allergan, the company that produces Botox and Vistabel, have developed a new cell-based assay that they estimate will reduce the use of animal-based assay testing for these products by 95 per cent or more over the next three years.
The results of years of research and development commitment, this new assay is the first of its kind. MichelleThew, Chief Executive of the British Union for theAbolition of Vivisection (BUAV), commented: “This represents a significant scientific breakthrough in the manufacturing of neurotoxins and is the right and necessary step forward in eliminating the use of animals for release of the product.”
