CHOOSE YOUR TREATMENT Penoplasty

AKA: Penis Augmentation/Penis Lengthening. Although it can be argued that all men are preoccupied with the size and shape of their penis, for some it can be such a source of anxiety and distress that it impacts on their relationships or enjoyment of sporting and other activities.

Whatisit?

Research on the internet will throw up a rash of different remedies from pills to pumps but these usually have limited or no effect. Penoplasty is a procedure that may provide a solution but should be approached with great caution – it is crucial that patients have realistic expectations of what can be achieved, in order to avoid disappointment.

Who does it?

● Plastic Surgeon ● Cosmetic Doctor Who is suitable?

Penoplasty is potentially suitable for any man worrying about either the width or length of their penis - or indeed both. You should have a thorough consultation with a surgeon or doctor, however, to ensure that you are medically fit.

What’s the treatment like?

Usually performed under local anaesthetic with sedation, a penoplasty can be aimed at either lengthening or enlarging the penis or a combination of the two.

To lengthen the penis, a small incision is made at the base and the ligament that attaches the penis to the body is cut, thereby ‘dropping it down’ by approximately one to two inches.

The ligament is then attached lower down anda flap of skin is used to cover this. It is important to take into account that this will only affect the flaccid length - it will not make the penis longer when erect and may even alter the angle of the penis.

The girth of the penis can be increased by either a process of FatTransfer (p 92) or the use of Body Fillers (p 56) and this will be evident when the penis is both flaccid and erect.

What happens afterwards?

If you have had your penis lengthened you will probably be advised to rest for a week post procedure and vigorous activities – particularly sexual intercourse - should be avoided for up to a month.

118 The Cosmetic Surgery Guide

Penis enlarging procedures involve minimal downtime, but body fillers such as Macrolane will only last about a year on average before needing a repeat treatment. Fat transfer is much longer-lasting but the fat can be reabsorbed by the body - up to 30 per cent - so you may need a top up.

Will I have a scar?

There will be a scar from penis lengthening, but it should be hidden by the pubic hair. There will be no scarring after enlarging, however there may be a lop-sided or lumpy appearance post procedure, particularly after fat transfer.Your practitioner will give you advice on how to deal with this.

Cost From £1,000 to £5,000

Lengthening surgery can cost up to £5,000 and enlargement surgery, using either fat transfer or body fillers, costs approximately £1,000.
