Surgeons & Health Boss inWarning Over Cut-PriceTreatments

Those considering cosmetic surgery have been warned that they should not choose a service based on price alone. New guidelines advise that people should "avoid being tempted by the offer of discounted prices" or incentives when making a decision.

Following the recent controversy over PIP breast implants, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer has issued new guidelines which have been prepared in collaboration with the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons.

The new recommendations state that people should carefully consider the effects they are seeking, and research the procedures prior to a consultation. The guidelines suggest those considering surgery, "seek advice from a GP to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for the procedure in question. GPs can give "impartial advice" about choosing a practitioner.”

Those considering travelling abroad for a cosmetic procedure should check with the regulatory authority in the country to which they intend to travel, to confirm the medical practitioner is appropriately registered in that country.

"Consultations should be with the plastic surgeon who will do your procedure and not with a representative from the clinic," the guidelines state. "Ensure that you fully understand the expected outcome, which will come from a thorough consultation with your surgeon," they conclude.

World News America’sTop Plastic SurgeryTrends Revealed by Dr George Pope

Women opting for plastic surgery are keen to keep their look ‘natural’, an American surgery expert has claimed.

Dr George Pope, a leading surgeon at the Orlando Plastic Surgery Center based in the US, has revealed some of the main trends that are emerging among his patients in 2012.

Pope admitted, while women are still very much in the market for cosmetic procedures, they generally want their overall appearance to seem as though they have had nothing done.

“Women want fuller lips, but not Angelina Jolie-sized lips. These women want fuller breasts through breast augmentation surgery, but are keeping the size natural looking,” Dr Pope said.

A member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Dr Pope emphasised the rise of ‘mummy makeovers’ in 2012, as women opt for tummy tucks and breast lifts to regain their natural shape after having children.

Dr Pope also noted Botox and Sculptra are now the most popular forms of non-invasive procedures, claiming his patients like these treatments because they make them look ‘red carpet ready’ yet appear natural.

Cosmetic Surgeon Optimises Natural-Looking Breast Augmentation Results.

Dr Jerome Edelstein, head plastic surgeon at aesthetic medical practice, Edelstein Cosmetic, has introduced Dimensional Breast Augmentation. This cutting-edge approach is designed to optimise the most natural-looking results for patients.

“One of the most difficult decisions for a breast augmentation patient to make is related to breast implants. With thousands of breast implants currently available on the market, much of the pre-surgery consultative process with a plastic surgeon is often devoted to helping a patient choose the most suitable implant to achieve their desired goals. There are so many choices that patients are often confused as to which they should choose,” he explains.

Extensive measurements are taken of a patient's pre-surgery body contour. Considering their aesthetic goals, the most suitable implant and surgical technique is used to achieve an improvement that complements the patient's appearance without looking ‘plastic’.

Did you know? Since 2000, there has been a massive 45% increase in the number of breast augmentation procedures performed, according to theAmerican Society of Plastic Surgeons.
