I’ve been told I need my PIP implants removed as they are leaking. What are my options if I decide I want them replaced?
Mr Douglas McGeorge If your original clinic/surgeon will not help, the NHS will remove implants that are
leaking. They will only provide replacements when the original treatment was carried out by the NHS. Re-augmentation might require seeing another surgeon privately.
In the last year I’ve lost over 10 stone. I feel great, but I’ve been left with a lot of excess skin on my belly. I want to look as fit as I now feel. What is involved with a tummy tuck, and how long will it take to heal?
Mr Atul Khanna A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure involves excision of a significant amount of skin below the umbilicus, redraping of the remaining skin and repositioning of the
umbilicus. The procedure also usually involves tightening of the rectus sheath and liposuction to the flanks.
For someone who has lost 10 stone in weight they may be suitable for a modified abdominoplasty that involves excision of skin and fat in a vertical dimension leaving the patient with a horizontal and vertical
scar. The recovery period is usually 3-4 weeks.

Firstly, an intensive scale and polish to remove staining, tartar and plaque build up by booking an appointment with the Hygienist for about an hour. More sessions may be required depending on the overall health of the gums. Secondly, a teeth bleaching treatment to lighten the teeth, and create a more youthful
appearance. This could be in the form of a combination of an 'in surgery' laser bleaching proce- dure as well as home bleaching sessions. Good re- sults can be achieved in about 2-3 weeks depending on the shade of teeth required.
I had terrible acne as a teenager and it’s left me with scarred cheeks. Can you recommend any non-surgical treatments that would help?
Dr AndrewWinter There are several ways to target acne scaring. Fillers can improve the appearance of acne scars by partially lifting the depressed
scar. The results can last from between a few months to a year using fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm. However, laser treatments and dermarollers can dramatically and permanently reduce the appearance of acne scars with improvement of overall tone.
Since my childhood I’ve been self conscious of my overbite. I feel like it’s holding me back professionally and personally, which is making my life a misery. What can surgery do to help?
Miss Caroline Mills Jaw discrepancies are common causes of cosmetic
concern. Many people are not aware that surgery is now commonly performed to correct these discrepancies, and that with modern surgical techniques, recovery is much quicker than years gone by.
Initially you should seek advice from a Maxillofacial Surgeon who specialises in this type of surgery.Often your treatment requires some orthodontic work (braces) as well to align your teeth into the correct position for them to meet properly after jaw surgery
