FEATURE Lift Me Up

Fat transfer procedures are growing in status as patients seek out treatments that offer impressive results and fast recovery. Rather than using an unnatural implant, Dr. Hamlet is able to remove fat from an unwanted area using theVASER Lipo System, and place it where the patient prefers more volume.

The use of theVASER® LipoSelection System, an advanced ultrasonic body contouring technology, allows him to perform natural augmentation. Here, Grant explains the procedure.

What is fat transfer & how does it work?

Simply put, fat cells can be harvested from one part of the body and transplanted to another area in need. Common areas of the body that fat is transferred to are places that undergo fat atrophy with time such as the face, chest and buttocks. Fat transfer is a great way to naturally add volume where needed to your body, restoring a more youthful appearance. Healthy fat is gently removed usingVaser Lipo and then transferred to the area you want enhanced.

This technique works effectively because it's your own tissue and therefore the cells that survive live for a long time. Not all fat transferred will live but will simply be absorbed by your body. The remaining cells that are healthy, and pick up a new blood supply, will flourish. Fat is the ideal material for soft tissue augmentation, and the results obtained with fat transfer are the most natural-appearing.

What are the most common areas for fat transfer?

Fat can be removed from most places on the body, but the most common areas to remove fat for the purpose of fat transfer include the abdomen,‘love handles’ and any other areas where fatty cells characteristically hoard themselves. In recent years the most popular places to transfer the fat to are the buttocks for women, and the chest for men.

Is there an ideal patient for transfer?

history and a clinical consultation.Your first discussion with a practitioner should clearly set out your expectations of the treatment. This should be matched by what they think the treatment can achieve for you individually.

How doesVASER improve fat transfer?

Body fat treated byVASER® LipoSelection System is top quality due to its sophisticated design, and easier to transfer for these types of procedures.TheVASER System effectively emulsifies the fat, allowing for the use of low pressure vacuum during removal, which reduces trauma to the fat cells. The system is designed to advance liposuction procedures by improving safety and efficiency, reducing complications, and allowing for faster patient recovery. This is truly the next generation of body contouring, simplifying and eliminating risks of reaction to a foreign body, need for removal of implant or scaring due to large incision.

How long will it take to recover from fat transfer?

Depending on the extent of the liposuction procedure, you may be able to return to work after three days or up to two weeks following your procedure, although the healing time can take 4-6 weeks. Aftercare will need to be attended each day. Depending on the extent of your procedure, you may have to have 1 session or 10 sessions plus. The end result will be visible after 4-6 months.

After researching how to get a fuller figure, Catherine chose fat transfer in October 2011.

“I had researched the lipo/fat transfer for around 6 months before I came across Dr. Hamlet, and was impressed with his previous results. He had performed exactly what I was looking for. I was sure about what I did and did not want. I wanted a specific result and I felt confident Dr Hamlet was able to give me this,
