CHOOSE YOUR TREATMENT Lip Augmentation
AKA: Lip Enhancement. Full lips are a sign of youth and beauty, so it’s not surprising that lip augmentation is one of the most popular procedures among women of all ages.
What is it?
Non-surgical lip enhancement is usually performed using Dermal Fillers (p 84), but for those who want a more permanent solution, lip implants are also
available. The most popular implant is the PermaLip, a soft, silicone implant, tapered to the natural shape of the lips.
Who does it?
● Plastic Surgeon ● Face Surgeon ● Cosmetic Doctor ● Cosmetic Dermatologist ● Cosmetic Dentist ● Cosmetic Nurse
Who is suitable?
If you want fuller lips, you are probably a suitable candidate for lip enhancement, but it is important to have a consultation with either a doctor or a surgeon to ascertain which is the most suitable technique for you.
For permanent lip implants, you will need to be in good general health, with no cold sores. Certain conditions like diabetes and lupus will also preclude you from surgery.
What’s the treatment like?
If you opt for non-surgical treatment, the area will be numbed using a local anaesthetic
cream. The filler will then be injected into the ‘vermillion border’ - the outer edge of the
lip.The lips are then massaged to ensure the product spreads
evenly. The whole process takes about 30 minutes, and this is reported to be one of the more
The Angelina Effect
Recently dubbed the only true beauty in Hollywood today during Joan Collins’ memorable tirade against the 21st century’s 'average-looking' stars,Angelina Jolie is almost universally acknowledged as a sex symbol.
But what makes her so attractive?Top cosmetic practitioner Dr Bob Khanna thinks he has spotted the feature that really makes her stand out from the crowd. “Working in the aesthetic industry does make you look at people differently,” he admits,“and I’ve spent a lot of time recently looking at very attractive women and trying to work out what it is about them that is so compelling.
“I noticed that many of them, including Angelina, have a discernible cleft in the mid-line of the lower - and sometimes even upper – lip, that means their lips are

Dr Khanna realised that if he could find a way to recreate this cleft artificially, he would be able to help women achieve lips like Angelina’
s.And so, Heart Lips™ was born.“Using a dermal filler, I can recreate that natural, heart-shaped appearance,” says Dr Khanna.“It’s the perfect treatment for the woman who really cares about how she looks and doesn’t mind the extra attention she will get!”

painful non-surgical procedures, because the lips are very
sensitive. They are also full of tiny blood vessels, so don’t worry if there is a lot of blood!
Permanent implants are usually inserted using local
anaesthesia. The surgeon makes a slit in the corner of the lip and slides the implant in. Once the implant is in place, the incision is closed with
stitches. The procedure takes around 20 minutes.
What happens afterwards?
After temporary lip enhancement there may be some swelling at the site of injection, but this will go down quite quickly.Your new lips should last for about six to nine months before you will need to return for a top-up.
After the PermaLip has been inserted, there will be some swelling and bruising for a few days and your lips might feel sensitive for a week or two. Once that has settled down, your new lips will last pretty much forever, although if you aren’t happy with them the implants can be
removed. They also come in different lengths and thicknesses, if you decide you want to go bigger.
Will I have a scar? Cost From £150 to £3,000
