Back in 2010 under the Department for children, schools and families play builder program, Calderdale Council initiated a scheme to refurbish and improve 22 playgrounds in the borough. Dodnaze Play Area was one of these newly refurbished play- grounds aimed towards all ages, which featured a tree house, hang-tough and other ‘adventure’ style apparatus. Two years on, local playground safety surfacing manufacturer Playrite re-visited the site to see how things had changed in the community since the installation. Steve Scott from Dodnaze Community Association explains the importance of having facilities like this on offer and the difference a new playground can make to the community. Dodnaze is an isolated semi-rural estate, comprising a mixture of private and social housing. There is a higher than average number of households with children and no adult in employment. Mr Scott comments how: “We have seen a large increase in the number of children using it from the surrounding area and from further afield. The park is at the centre of the estate so the improvements really have lifted the estate. We have seen a reduction in dog fouling, litter being dropped, graffiti and anti-social behaviour since the opening of the new park which all point towards generally a better quality of life in the area."

Canopies and shelters from Autopa
Autopamanufacture, supply and install shelters and canopies suitable for a wide range of appli- cations from Schools to Care homes. Their latest project was for a bespoke ‘Harlequin’ shelter for Lansdowne Primary Academy, Essex. The school had a requirement for a covered play area for the nursery children. The site was
exposed to the elements, so they required a bespoke solution, tailor-made to the particular site conditions. The customer was kept up-to-date throughout the design process, and was provided with detailed product drawings, for which their approval was sought. Following the manufacture, installation commenced on the agreed date, and was completed after three days.
