rooms to create a new English Block for the school. Located in a green belt area, it was essential for planning that the building blend into the environment and was of a sustainable nature. The location of the busy school in a built up area also meant that they required a building that would be constructed quickly and with minimum inconvenience to school and neighbours alike. The school chose Cabinco to supply a

D

building which was constructed from FSC Certified timbers and had a solid log structural shell with a Siberian Larch external cladding. It is a highly sustain- able building, which has minimal impact on the environment as a result of energy efficient M&E, U Values between 0.14- 0.2 and excellent air tightness. Offsite manufacture facilitates rapid construction and ensures very low site

waste. The Ockendon Academy now has a very low maintenance building, which is a permanent addition to the schools resources. The architect designed a split level

roof with large glazed atrium to ensure modern feel to the building and to maximise natural daylight through the building. Acoustic Attenuation to BB93

esigned for the Ockendon Academy, this log building provides eight additional class-

and high BREEAM ratings are expected. The project was completed within its

20 week build schedule and delivered on budget to a very satisfied client who commented: “We have never had the pleasure of working with someone who cares so much about his work and insists the work force deliver at the highest level of quality.” Keys and completion certificates were

exchanged in July and the school are looking forward to using the building at the start of the new term, with a high profile official opening shortly afterwards.
