enq.154 Accoya benches feature in Berlin park
A district in the eastern part of Berlin, has been converted into a modern inner-city park. The eastern part of the 26 hectare (64 acre) park was opened in September 2011 and spans some 17 hectares (42 acres). The western part, due to open in 2013, will stretch the whole area to around 26 hectares (64 acres). Glue – laminated
Accoyawood was used to build sixty-nine park benches. Glulam is the only engi- neered wood material that offers unlimited design flexibility. It is fabricated by joining two or more layers of wood with an adhesive so that the grains of all the layers are approximately parallel. Accoya wood was the perfect fit and obvious choice for the project.

Lathams all set for Timber Expo 2012
It looks like bigger promises to be better at this year’s Timber Expo. As well as the show being 50 per cent bigger than in 2011, James Lathams’ stand will also be 50 per cent bigger, providing a platform to showcase an even wider range of products. Plus, not only will James Latham be a Gold Sponsor of the show, they will also be hosting the VIP area where visitors will be invited to join them for refreshments and learn more about their extensive range of panel products, hardwood and hardwood flooring. On Lathams’ stand this year you will find a number of their new value-added products including HIF Finesse; a veneered panel that gives dimension, depth and texture to an otherwise flat surface, Dendrolight; a solid wood material that grants extra lightness and stability to natural solid wood as well as Accoya and Tricoya, two exceptionally durable and stable products, which are suitable for a wide range of internal and external uses. In addition, you will also see Lathams’ range of Moralt door- blanks, plus WoodEx, its versatile engineered hardwood and softwood, which offers two high quality clear faces, making it an ideal product for use in numerous joinery applications, including windows and doors. Chris Sutton, Lathams’ director, commented, “Timber Expo 2011 was a real success for us and a perfect platform to let the industry see the expansive range of products that we offer, so with 50 per cent more space this year we are looking forward to another terrific show.”

www.strongtie.co.uk The power of performance
Fasteners and fixings provider Owlett-Jaton has launched a specialist high performance timber screw that has been designed for ease of use and speed of application when used with a power tool. The Timber-Master screw is a heavy duty fixing for both timber-to-timber and compo- nent-to-timber applications. Known as ‘the choice of master craftsmen’, Timber-Master is ideal for use in beams, rafters, stairs, floor joists, trusses, landscape retaining walls, fence posts and railings and in post and beam con-
struction. The heat treated shank of the Timber-Master also ensures optimum product strength and has been lubricated to reduce friction, which in turn reduces the torque required for application.
