Goodman Fields is a high profile development in the heart of the City and ideally located for Canary Wharf, Docklands and South Bank. Designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, together with Townshend Landscape Architects for Berkeley First, the development will comprise of a selection of high quality studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments as well as retail and commercial space, student accommodation and a hotel. Trade and commercial manufacturer Dempsey Dyer is delighted to have been awarded the contract to supply the windows for the £80 million high rise student accommodation block. The specification would have posed difficult challenges for any supplier less experienced than Dempsey Dyer. Great emphasis has been placed on the sustainability of the building, so the energy efficiency of the windows was of key importance. Coloured profiles were also specified, but the contractors were looking for added reassurances knowing how quickly a sub standard product can start to fade and look shabby. Finally, the contractor needed to have experience of working on high profile devel- opments. The contract is to supply the windows only, but Dempsey Dyer’s commitment to quality means they are working alongside the Goodman Fields contractors to ensure that the installation process runs smoothly.

Marley Eternit Textura has been specified for the new 512-bed Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. The site is in the Metropolitan Green Belt, surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and an RSPB nature reserve. The design and choice of materials for the exterior of the building, which ranges from single to six storeys, was therefore critical to the success of this project. Textura combines an appealing textured surface finish with toughness and it has a highly glazed, granular finish that can be supplied in a range of standard colours
as well as any factory-approved RAL colour. It also has an installed life expectancy of at least 50 years.

RigiSystems Ziplok 400 standing seam profile has been used to create a contemporary look to Light Hall Schools’ new sixth form extension in Solihull. In all, around 2,500 sq m of Ziplok was used in both straight and tapered format, com- plete with RigiSystems’ 20/100/1000 steel liner,
flashings and fall arrest system. Finish on all the Ziplok is RigiSystems MicroMatt weathered finish, which replicates the appearance of a roof after it has been installed for a number of years and the natural weathering process has taken place. Newly installed mill finish or stucco embossed aluminium can, in certain circum- stances, cause problems with reflected sunlight creating glare.
