Students at a school for children with severe physical disabilities in Stroud have recently welcomed the addition of a series of specially adapted bathrooms. St Rose’s School provides education, care and therapy services for children with severe disabilities and complex health conditions. The school was in need of new bathrooms, after its existing facilities were deemed no longer fit-for-purpose following 20 years without refurbishment. Staff approached the assisted bathing specialist, Kingkraft, to assist with designing a new set of bathroom facilities for the students. Kingkraft’s solution was to create a wet room equipped with ceiling track hoist, and replace an existing bath in different bathroom with a height adjustable tub, complemented by hoist. The new facilities have since enabled a number of the school’s students to help ultimately lead more independent lives. Sheila Talwar, head of care at the school, comments: “One of the most important aspects of daily life for our students is the oppor- tunity to live their lives with dignity. People take being able to clean themselves on a daily basis for granted. The students love the new bathrooms. They are modern, easy to use, and allow for comfortable bathing. It is exactly what we were hoping for.”
