University of Cambridge gets go ahead for major new development
Canterbury Beaney Art Museum and Library to be unveiled following major restoration and extension
Canterbury’s iconic Beaney Art, Museum and Library is set to re-open its doors to the public in early September following a major £14 million restoration and extension project. The vision behind the project, a partnership between Canterbury City Council and Kent County Council, is to provide, under one roof, a huge range of opportunities for people to explore, learn and partici- pate through a variety of permanent museum and art collections, special exhibitions, community engagement programmes and educational activities. The much loved building in the

from his role as chairman of The Building Centre Group Ltd, a position that he has held for the past 16 years. Richard Hill, managing director of ACO Technologies and a Trustee of the Building Centre has been appointed as Michaels successor.

city’s library and to seven permanent galleries together with a state-of-the- art special exhibitions gallery and a collaborative space for use by artists and local groups. The new extension houses the library, the special exhibi- tions gallery and a learning lab for cre- ative participation as well as the city’s visitor information services. The Beaney House of Art and
Knowledge will open on 5 September and between September and October 2012 the Special Exhibitions Room will host an Arts Council opening exhibition of drawings and small sculptures by Henry Moore.
The University of Cambridge has been granted planning permission for its £1 billion development in North West Cambridge consisting of 1,500 homes for key University and College employees, 1,500 homes for sale, accommodation for 2,000 students, 100,000 square metres of research facilities, including up to 40,000 square metres for research institutes and private research facili- ties linked to the University and a wide range of community facilities. Phase one of the development will
be subject to approval from the University’s Regent House, which will be sought in early 2013.

training, the new headquarters now boasts the UK’s largest dedicated biomass training centre. Windhager UK is an approved HETAS training centre complete with a line-up of fully functional models. Open to customers and industry
professionals alike, Windhager’s new showroom and training centre is easily accessible from the M4, either junction 17 or 18. Training is an essential part of ensuring that installers, specifiers and consumers are fully confident with biomass technology. Training courses pro- vided include a product overview; wood pellet boilers; log gasification; and controls. HETAS approved courses for heating engineers include dry systems; wet systems; biomass; and pre-fabricated flue systems. Further information is available from
