President Oliver visits the new WWBA website

The Welsh Women’s Bowling Association have a new-look website, welshwomensbowling.co.uk, launched at finals weekend in Llanelli. President Stella Oliver was amongst the first to have a look at the revamped site, which provides up-to-date information, news and photographs on national and international events, competitions and results of Savegar Trophy matches in the county championship. Welsh team manager Hazel Wilson, who co-ordinates the website, is seen showing president Stella and WWBA sponsor, Steve Watson, of Sporting Highlights, the re-invigorated page. Watson said afterwards: “I am very pleased that the Welsh Women's Bowls Association continues to build on their success on the greens and the world stage. This fresh new-look website, will allow the best travelling supporters and loyal bowling club members to stay in contact by just a click of a button.”

The WWBA would like to hear from any business interested in advertising on their site.

Former champ Chisholm is on the move

Former Welsh International Open Champion Robert Chisholm has set-up home in Swansea and is living with his partner, Welsh junior international Hannah Williams.

Chisholm recently participated in the Swansea Festival and, although playing well, was unable to force his way into any of the finals. Chisholm fared better in the Neath Open Singles, beating holder Ben Thomas 21-16 in the final.

Home duo take Harlequins Pairs

The Harlequins Bowls Club held their 14th annual Pairs competition recently, with the event being as big a success as ever, attracting a tremendous entry of 60 teams.

In the first semi-final, Ystradfechan’s Ceri Evans and Mark Thomas defeated Eithan and Craig Humphries from the Troedyrhiw Bowls Club by 22 shots to 15.

Amazingly, Eithan Humphries, who had bowled throughout the week like a seasoned competitor, is just ten-years-old - definitely a name to look out for in the years to come. In the other semi-final, Dai and Chris Prosser of Harlequins were in total control from the start against David L Davies and Steve Jackson, who conceded the game on 18 ends with the deficit at 13 shots, the Harlequins pair leading 21 shots to eight. The final was played in brilliant sunshine and each of the four competitors bowled well, thoroughly entertaining the spectators present.

After five ends, Dai and Chris Prosser were leading Ceri Evans and Mark Thomas by four shots to three. They increased this lead to 13 shots to six at the halfway stage and still led by six shots after 15 ends.

Over the last six ends, the game was very even and Dai and Chris ran out worthy winners by 20 shots to 15. At the presentation ceremony Mr Paul Bugg, chairman of the Harlequins Bowls Club, congratulated all the players for a marvellous week of bowls, thanking the club members for their assistance during the week and the organisers for their work on yet another successful tournament.

Bugg then presented the semi- finalists and finalists with their prizes, handing the winners, Dai and Chris Prosser, the Carling Pairs trophy and silver salvers, congratulating them for their consistent bowling throughout the week.

This win was Dai’s second title and Chris’ third.
