Devon claim Middleton Cup again D
evon won the Middleton Cup for the third time in five years on the
penultimate day of play at the 2011 Bowls England National Championships in Worthing. They beat Berkshire at Beach House Park in a thrilling final, scoring 11 shots to three on the final end across the six rinks to secure the title.
The ladies’ equivalent, the
Johns Trophy, went to Hampshire for the second time in four years. They beat Devon in the final having earlier won their semi-final against Cumbria.
Lancashire won the Balcomb
Trophy for the first time with a victory over Cornwall, whilst Surrey won the Walker Cup after beating Lincolnshire 42-29. The Amy Rose Bowl went
to Devon for the third time in five years after their 35-30 win over Kent. Worcester BC claimed the Bowls England Men’s Top Club competition, the 2006 runners-up seeing-off the defending champions from Rugby BC in Warwickshire 3-2 to claim the coveted crown for the first time. Meanwhile, the women’s equivalent Top Club competition went to Eastbourne BC, who beat Forest Oaks 72-63 in the final. Huntingdonshire won the White Rose Trophy for the first time following a thrilling final with Essex, the 2008 champions. Supreme BC became the first winners of the Tony Allcock Trophy, the Bowls England National Mixed Over-60 Double Rink. They defeated Mylor Bridge
BC in the final. Last but by no means least, Darlington Railway Athletic BC, from Durham, beat Shaldon BC to the Bowls England National Club Two Fours title.
