Postie Bolt bags National Singles D
Victory at Worthing for Durham man David gives him his first major outdoor title
urham postman David Bolt made some of his best ever deliveries as he
claimed his first major outdoor title - the Bowls England National Singles Championship. The 32-year-old from Silksworth BC defeated Graham Ashby from Rugby BC in Warwickshire in a closely-fought final at Beach House Park in Worthing. In doing so, Bolt became the first Sunderland-based bowler to take the title since Chas Gibbs in 1913.
His 21-15 win in the final came after he had seen off Robert Paxton of Exonia in the semis, with Ashby having accounted for Mel Biggs in the other of the last four matches. The Men’s Pairs went the way of Dean Hemming and Rob Stanley from Worcester BC. They beat Duncan Robinson and Brett Morley from Trent Vale BC, Nottinghamshire, in the final to claim the prestigious title. Following a tight opening, the
Worcester duo never looked back after collecting a count of five on the 12th end.
Hemming and Stanley defeated Shaun Marriott and Jamie Walker from Northamptonshire in the semi-finals, whilst Robinson and Morley progressed following a 22-13 win against Simon Leader and Nick Brett. Devon’s Darren James, Neil Popham and Steve Bonetta won the Bowls England National Triples Championship, sponsored by PFL. The Bideford BC trio beat Rhys Lee, Steve Mead and Luke Nunn from Barton-le-Clay BC, Bedfordshire, 17-15.
