EnglishRound-up All the latest from the English bowls scene, by Michael McEwan Club fundraiser aims to create good VIBE
Intent on raising money for the Visually Impaired Bowlers of England (VIBE) World Championships at Worthing in 2013, Hertfordshire clubs Garston and Met Police Bushey recently staged a quiz night.
With members of both clubs joined by players from both Bushey Bowls Club and Berkhamsted Bowls Club, there was a lively evening’s
entertainment, starting with a bumper fish and chip supper.
A raffle and a ‘heads and tails’ game raised extra money. At the end of the evening, Garston secretary Roger Jarvis was able to hand to the Hertfordshire ladies’ president Marcia Pearce a cheque for £450.
In need of
members? Invite the road show
“Have Mat Will Travel” is a bowls road show that brings indoor/outdoor mats, bowls and banners to a large venue or event in your county. On the day, local clubs can go along to promote bowls and hand out info. Participants who have a go on the day receive a voucher they can take to a local club for a free session and to meet club members. It’s a great way to bring new members into your club!
The BDA want to get both the road shows out as much as possible so please get in touch and see if the road show can come to your county to help. Have a look at the video clip on the website along with a poster which gives more information. For further information, contact Chris Parkin on 01664 484926.
