Making plans for the future

elcome to issue 24 of Nationwide Bowler, the final edition of the magazine for 2011. It barely seems possible that another year has come to an end but, sure enough, here we are again, getting ready for the start of a whole new year in 2012. And when I say we are getting ready for 2012, that’s exactly what I mean as, next year, your favourite bowls magazine will come with a fresh, exciting new look. We are currently working hard with our design team on giving Nationwide Bowler a fresh new feel in time for issue 25 hitting the shelves. What does that mean for you, the reader? Only good things! You will be pleased to hear that, just because we are changing the look of the magazine, we are by no means doing away with all of the things that have made the magazine so popular over the years.

All the old favourites will return - albeit with a slightly more modern, more cutting-edge look to them - and our unrivalled coverage of all of the sport’s leading events, both at home and abroad, will continue as always. Why the re-design? That’s simple. Whilst we know that Nationwide Bowler is already very popular, we are not ones for resting on our laurels. Complacency just isn’t in our nature. Instead, we recognise the need to always keep pushing through new ideas, new content and new styles in order to give you the brightest and best magazine that we possibly can. We are already very excited about bringing you our new-look magazine next year and hope you will like what you see. Incidentally, one thing that won’t change is that we will continue to deliver copies of the magazine free to every bowls club in the UK. We know full well that times have been tough for a great number of clubs over the past few years, with rising energy costs and dwindling memberships combining to put many out of business. However, it needn’t all be doom and gloom as one fantastic Northamptonshire club has demonstrated this year. Facing the threat of closure this time last year, the members of Woodford-cum-Membris, along with volunteers from the local community, pulled together to haul the club back from the brink. Within the space of 12 months, it has gone from endangered to reinvigorated. You can read their incredible, inspirational story on page 28. Enjoy the issue.
