PROJECT / PIZZA HUT, SOLIHULL, ENGLAND

carried through all the fittings used in the scheme. It also has the affect of providing a visually calm ceiling. The Quintessence also highlights walkways and provides vertical illuminance to the Paradisers as they walk though the restaurant with freshly cooked pizzas and pasta.

Booth and banquette seating surrounds the salad bar. The booths allow customers to feel the ‘buzz’ of the restaurant, while feeling contained in their private space. Seating in contrasting colours defines dif- ferent areas, with half the booths using rich bronze with lime green piping, while the remaining booths are covered in dark plum. On the far side of the restaurant, ban- quettes provide flexible seating accommo- dating tables for two, which can be grouped together for larger parties. This more open dining area is delineated by the timber floor and ceiling that gives this space its own identity. Textured acoustic panels create a feature back wall, with a patterned gobo

light effect. This draws attention to the restaurant from outside, while providing a further layer of decorative lighting to the already patterned panels.

The salad bar is the main feature and takes centre stage, promoting Pizza Hut UK’s unlimited salad with every main course. A halo of dramatic ‘stage’ lights overhead is created by ERCO’s 14W Logotec 15 degree narrow beam surface mounted spotlights. This gives a significantly higher lighting level which contrasts with the surrounding area, drawing attention to the salad bar. Andy Turnbull, Principal Creative Director at Checkland Kindleysides, comments: ‘‘The new concept has created a more sociable and dramatic restaurant and ERCO’s lighting design works brilliantly to ensure customers have a great experience in a warm, com- fortable and ‘fun’ environment.” www.erco.com www.checklandkindleysides.com
