Boise Environmental Education WATERSHED WEEKEND PROGRAMS


Go with the flow to the Boise WaterShed every third Saturday of each month for fun and activities the whole family can enjoy! Activities and crafts take place from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., followed by a wastewater treatment plant tour from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Closed-toe shoes required for tour. FREE admission! No pre- registration required unless indicated.


May 19 – Water Awareness Week


GROUP TOURS AND LESSONS


The Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center introduces pre-K- 12th grade students to water and its many roles. Tours and lessons are designed to engage students in hands-on activities, demonstrations, science experiments, and outdoor education at the Boise River.


Outreach programs for the cities of Boise, Garden City, and Eagle are also offered in your classroom at no charge. The Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center promotes water stewardship through high-tech, hands-on exhibits using humor to entertain, science to amaze, and visuals that are sure to make a splash! Located at the West Boise Wastewater Treatment Facility, the LEED-certified building also features a library, a theater, and amazing artwork.

Water is the treasure of the Treasure Valley! Come celebrate water with this event sponsored by Water Awareness Week Region 3. From 10:30-11:15 Kindergarten and first grade students from Foothills School of Arts and Sciences will present their public service announcement videos encouraging us all to be more water wise. At 11:15 hike half a mile to the Boise River to release our rainbow trout! Inside the exhibit hall make an edible aquifer using ice cream, participate in hands-on activities and meet Eddy Trout!


June 16 Wetland Adventures at Hyatt Hidden Lakes


Explore the Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve at the corner of Chinden and Maple Grove during this fun outdoor event! From 10:00 am - 1:00 pm education Stations will be set up along the trail for you to learn about wildlife and wetland functions at this City park. Look for signs of wildlife, meet artist Mark Baltes and admire the functional art installation ‘Habitat’ for bats, plus meet wetland scientists along a scavenger hunt! Note: The Boise WaterShed will be closed today.


July 21 Water Olympics


While the world prepares for the summer Olympics, take the water challenge at the Boise WaterShed! Inside the exhibit hall, complete water games in order to win prizes. Discover the amazing properties of water, such as cohesion and surface tension. Outside activities will keep you cool – from Super Soakers to water balloons games! Plan to get wet and bring a change of clothes.


August 18 Boise WaterShed Closed


Join the staff of the Boise WaterShed at Kokanee Outdoor Day – a fun scavenger hunt through our watershed culminating at a celebration in Idaho City.

Dive into fun at the Boise WaterShed on Wednesdays in June, July and August from 10:00 a.m. to noon for free all-ages activities, scientific demonstrations, and art in the exhibit hall! At 10:30, join us for a hands-on presentation and interactive activity in the Theater. At 11:00, see and smell the process of wastewater treatment during the treatment plant tour. Closed-toe shoes required for tour, no strollers. There’s something for the whole family to enjoy while staying cool this summer. No pre-registration required; groups welcome!
