ACRYLIC PAINTING BEG You will enjoy learning about this versatile and quick-drying medium! Painters of all skill levels are welcome. Begin- ners will focus on the basic techniques of color, composition, texture and layering. Students with previous experience will be able to refine their basic skills while learning new and advanced techniques. Drawing uses the very simplest tools-pencil and paper -- and is the most basic of the art forms -- yet it can also be the most intimidating. You’ll improve both your drawing and your observation skills by learning about the funda- mentals of line, shape, value, perspective and proportion. This is a fun, low-pressure, relaxing class -- no experience (or drawing ability!) is required.

DRAWING FROM NATURE


Nature is an endless source of inspiration and visual stimulation. See the land with new eyes as you hike and draw along Boise’s Foothills trails. The Foothills Learning Center and the Fort Boise Art Center are collaborating in this unique class. Our instructors will guide you on a moderate hike, then explore a variety of drawing techniques and apply basic elements of art such as line, shape, space, light and texture.

INTRO TO OIL PAINTING


Have fun while learning the basics of oil painting, using faster-drying alkyd oil paints and less-toxic mediums and sol- vents (no turpentine fumes!). Stretch and prime your own canvas and learn about traditional techniques like under- painting, glazing and alla prima painting. No prior experience is necessary and anyone is welcome! BATIK


Explore the possibilities of combining color and fabric! Learn how to use wax as a dye resist with the ancient Japa- nese art of Batik. Purchase of some materials required.

This beginner class covers the basics of creating mosaics in glass: the myriad types of glass, tools for cutting glass, and other materials used in the medium as well as glass mosaic styles and history, mosaic design, rendering/cutting, grouting and finishing. The class will also include demonstrations by the instructor, a ton of one-on-one instruction, plenty of studio time and a wonderful glass mosaic piece designed and rendered by you!

Enjoy working with a variety of mediums to create unique jewelry. You’ll get to make your own beads, learn earring, necklace and bracelet techniques, wire twisting and the arts of hemp tying and peyote stitch! Have fun with clay! This class is open to parents or grandparents with children age 9 and older. Learn to create original pots by forming clay on an electric potter’s wheel or using hand-building techniques such as pinch, coil and slab construction. Students will also learn about glazing and firing techniques. Instructor will provide supply list at first class. Enroll only the child, but an parent/guardian must attend the class with the child.
