s the duties of an installation techni- cian expand and change, so must the
credentials they achieve. Since the Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) program is the only recognized industry credential for technicians at all levels, once again the program has updated and revised its con- tent — this time at the Advanced level. MECP has three levels of certification — Basic, Advanced and Master. Technicians pursuing MECP Ad- vanced certification must have a minimum of one year’s work ex- perience in the industry, though often they have more. It’s the “in the trenches” credential for tech- nicians out there installing on a day-to-day basis and who are ca- reer individuals.
THE ULTIMATE REFERENCE BOOK The all-new MECP Advanced Installation Technician Study Guide (Third Edition), released Jan. 3, is an 864-page reference guide that is more than twice the size of the previous Advanced study guide. “The range of knowledge a technician installing in today’s vehicles must have is significantly more than even just a few years ago,” commented Todd Ramsey of Ramsey Consulting Group and a technical consultant to MECP. The guide contains even more images and diagrams and real-world examples than the previous edition and has the same five-chapter format as all MECP study guides:
