GENERAL ASSEMBLY


Planning and Strategy Group (PSG) announced that based on the report of the Secretary-General, the Secretariat was well ahead of schedule in the implementation of the new Action Plans.

These Action Plans had been approved by the Administrative Council in May 2011. She said that many activities under the Action Plan for 2012- 2013 had already been implemented by the Secretariat in 2011, way ahead of schedule.


These included: • increasing income • reducing operational expenses


• enhancing communi- cations with members

and new initiatives


• offering more activities to a larger number of members


• drafting Key Perfor- mance Indicators


• introducing a new organisational structure for the Secretariat.


She stressed that a key factor to the Union’s success would be invol- ving members – both from developed and developing countries – in the decision- making process and in the implementation of projects.


• enhancing partnerships with regional and international partners


• increasing ABU and Asiavision membership • introducing new projects


As for the preparations for the 50th anniversary of the ABU in 2014, Ms Kim said the PSG agreed that


In recognition of their outstanding service and contribution to the advancement of the ABU, former ABU President Yoshinori Imai and former ABU Vice President Manuel Gonçalves were both conferred the title of Honarary Councillor during the 48th ABU General Assembly.


Mr Imai, who was present at the General Assembly in New Delhi expressed his gratitude to ABU members for the recognition.


He said that he had been sad to part with the ABU when he stepped down last January and this appointment would enable him to continue his involvement with the Union.

Mr Gonçalves was ABU Vice President from 2007 to 2010 while Mr Imai served as President of the ABU from 2008 until 2011.
