ABU elects new President T


he ABU’s new President is Kim In-Kyu, CEO and


Dr Kim was elected unani- mously on 8 November at the ABU General Assem- bly in New Delhi. The GA and associated meetings attracted nearly 500 par- ticipants.


The assembly also unani- mously elected a new Vice President, Naoji Ono, Executive Vice President of NHK-Japan. He took over the position vacated by Dr Kim, who had been Vice President since the beginning of 2011.

Mr Ono will last until the end of 2014.


Dr Kim succeeds Ibrahim Yahaya, Media and Broad- cast Advisor to Malaysia’s Minister of Information, Communication and Culture, who was Acting President.


Ibrahim has resumed his position as ABU Vice President and will serve until the end of 2012. The other Vice President is Murtaza Solangi, Director General of PBC-Pakistan.


Dr Kim joined KBS as a news reporter in 1973 and has held a number of key positions, including being a Member of the


Board of Governors and Managing Director of New Media. He also serves as Chairman of the Korean Broadcasters Association.


The 48th General Assem- bly and associated meet- ings saw a week of discus- sions among broadcasters and other participants from more than 120 organisa- tions in 46 countries.


The meetings served as a platform for mem- bers to network and share knowledge in a wide range of areas, including technologies, programming, sports and news.


They also included the


2011 ABU Prizes cere- mony, with Japan and China walking off with many of the awards.


The meetings were hosted by India’s national broadcasting corporation, Prasar Bharati, to whom the assembly recorded its appreciation.


The ABU appointed as Honorary Councillors Mr Yoshinori Imai, who was ABU President from late 2008 to early 2011, and Mr Manuel Gonçalves, who was ABU Vice President from 2007 to 2010.


KBS will host the 49th General Assembly in Seoul in October 2012.
