elegates of the General Assembly had lots of opportunities to meet and mingle during the banquets hosted by participating broadcasters.
An outdoor reception was hosted by Germany’s Deutsche Welle on 5 November and its Director General, Erik Bettermann, was there to welcome delegates.
Deutsche Welle’s ABU membership dates back to 1966. The international broadcaster produces television, radio and online content that reaches more than 86 million listeners and viewers worldwide.
General Assembly host Prasar Bharati provided dinner after the presentation of the ABU Prizes on 7 November.
The event was graced by India’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni and Rajiv Takru, the ministry’s Additional Secretary and Prasar Bharati’s officiating chief executive officer.
Japan’s NHK, represented by its Executive Vice- President Naoji Ono, hosted the final event of the General Assembly on the evening of 8 November.
Delegates were treated to a rousing taiko performance by an all-female troupe during cocktails, followed by dinner on the hotel lawn.
NHK, which broadcasts worldwide in 18 languages, was among the first members of the ABU. Its membership dates back to the Union’s inception in 1964.
