A key member of the team was the event’s Project Director, George Kuruvila, who was vital in coordina- ting the team’s activities. Mr Kuruvila could always be found outside the con- ference rooms, always with a smile, ready to help find solutions.
The host of the ABU General Assembly offered to arrange for any local trips which delegates wanted to make, whether for work or leisure.

Delegates get warm reception in India
One member who played a vital role in handling this was Harpal Singh, who tirelessly and efficiently made arrangements for the delegates’ transportation needs. From helping delegates with missing luggage to accompanying a delegate who needed hospitalisation, the team members met every need.
Arrangements were also made for delegates who wanted to visit the Taj Mahal, which is 253km away from New Delhi.

Singh, YP Singh and DP Banerji not only took delegates sightseeing around New Delhi but also made sure they were well hydrated on the very sultry day of the excursion. Minding eight busloads of delegates was no mean feat. Plus, not one guest went missing, not even in the chaos of shopping!
NHK wins top AVN award
Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK, has won the 2011 award for the best news coverage of the year by a member of Asiavision.
It received the Dennis Anthony Memorial Award for its outstanding coverage of the 11 March disaster.
NHK sent a news flash to Asiavision within an hour of the massive earthquake and followed it up with comprehensive coverage of the
32 ABU News tsunami and the nuclear crisis.
The award, named after a former ABU Senior Officer (News) who died in 1996, was announced at the General Assembly in New Delhi.
The winner of the 2011 Dennis Anthony award was chosen by a panel of three judges representing CNN, the European Broadcasting Union and the Arab States Broadcasting Union.
Journalist Emani Krishna Rao covered many ABU meetings. Along with his team, Mr Rao produced a daily bulletin which informed delegates about what transpired in the various meetings. The team also arranged for press coverage of the General Assembly.
Others such as Parvesh Ankar, Meenu Khare, Anita Kumar, Atal Sharma, Biju Mathew, PK Maheshwari, Ramkumar, Bashudha Banerji were also part of the team that was instrumental in ensuring the General Assembly meetings ran smoothly.
