commercial and marina facilities are under way. The site of the Olympic Sailing Village is known as the
Officers’ Field, having formerly been occupied by a naval offi- cers’ club and a rugby pitch. Construction started in late September 2009. The homes are
being leased to the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), but are already on sale to the public, who can view a completed show home. Some of the homes in the £13 million development have
coastal views and many of them are situated around a green. Prices range from £135,000 to £420,000 – but anyone who exchanged contracts on a home before the end of 2011 received £10,000 towards their deposit. This equates to £1,000 for each month the home is let to the ODA.
September saw the topping-out ceremony led by Olympic
medallist and world record breaker triple jumper Jonathan Edwards CBE, who is now a director of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He unveiled a commemorative stone, watched by Kim Slowe, managing director of developer ZeroC, and Rob Acheson, director of main contractor Acheson Construction. In the remaining four months after the handover, the ODA
will furnish the properties. Acheson Construction has been based in Dorchester since
1974 and its recent projects have included medical centres, sports centres, care homes and a new church, as well as housing. The company made a point of using local labour in the Sailing Village project.
