eymouth Bay and Portland Harbour, venue for the Olympic and Paralympic sailing competitions, are the first of the 2012 Games’ venues to be completed


– and the Olympic Sailing Village in Portland, was handed over by January. The village’s sustainable accommodation will host up to 650


international sailors, coaches and officials. After the Games the 1.92 hectare development of 77 highly contemporary one, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes will be sold, and about a quar- ter of them will be made available as ‘affordable’ housing for the local community. The development has been constructed to Code Level 4 of the


Code for Sustainable Homes. It incorporates biomass district heating, wood pellet stoves, rainwater harvesting and a high level of insulation. London’s original bid for the Games proposed a cruise ship to


accommodate the sailing squads, but instead a housing project, within walking distance of the sailing venue, was fast-tracked, together with the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and the adjoining commercial marina. It has kick- started the regeneration of the former Naval Air Station at Portland, now known as Osprey Quay, where new residential,
