and built by Miller Construction, the new state-of-the-art campus brings world class education and training facilities together in an iconic building and is set to make a significant impact on the town of Hartlepool, on both its economy and the local community. The 19,000 sq m scheme consists


of two blocks linked by a continuous curved atrium space. Bryan Architects added, “Natural light was very important on this project. The Technal window system allowed us to achieve a linear effect of continuous glazing. The MX curtain walling system has provided us with a good facet to give the appearance of a curved façade for the front and rear elevations.” 125

GB BUILDING SOLUTIONS AWARDED £3.4 MILLION SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISE CENTRE


Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Higher Education Funding Council for England and the University of Bradford the building will be used as a teaching and learning resource to promote sustainable living; following on from its world class sustainable student village, the Green, it further demonstrates the university’s continued commitment to its Ecoversity programme. The Sustainable Enterprise Centre


(SEC) has been designed to BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ standards, using the University’s target-driven sustainable building specification, which concen- trates on building physics rather than relying solely on renewable technologies. The building will be made from an inno-


vative and unique mix of materials including a gulam engineered timber frame and Lytag recycled aggregates, and will have walls of Hemcrete, a blend of a lime-based binder and the woody core of the hemp plant that gives a highly effi- cient building performance as well as being sustainable. The SEC’s building has an interim


BREEAM certificate of 94.95 per cent and, along with the Green, which achieved a BREEAM score of 95.05 per cent, it demonstrates the university’s commitment to a sustainable built envi- ronment. The University has two BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ buildings out of only 15 worldwide to achieve a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating.


GLASEN TABLETOPS ADD TO DRAMATIC NEW LOOK


Glasen interior film from David Clouting Ltd was used to provide a stunning finish for the table tops at one of London’s most prestigious and iconic venues – the Met Bar. Glasen interior film developed by LG Hausys and exclusively distributed in the UK by David Clouting Ltd is produced utilising high pearl printing technology to create a striking 3D effect film, which, when laminated onto the back of a glass sheet, provides the ultimate high gloss finish – both


in looks and surface performance. Glasen in a dark gold, coconut design was spec- ified for the Met Bar project and laminated on to the back of table top specification glass by leading glass fabricator WGL. Glasen is certified to act as a safety film, achieving European EN12600: 2003-04 Classification.

Kommerling customer, Glazeguard SW Ltd are the proud manufacturers and installers of the new ‘Air Walk’ at the top of the recently refurbished, iconic Blackpool Tower. Believed to be the highest glass floor in the country, the fitting of the floor and wall panels required both ingenuity and considerable expertise and skill from Glazeguard’s team of installation engi- neers. Chris Davis, technical director at Glazeguard, explains more; “The Air Walk is made up of five
