Licensees get their claws into Thundercats
The 1980’s revival continues apace at Warner Bros. Consumer Products UK as the licensor announces that a further four partners have been added to the ThunderCats licensing programme bringing the total number of partners to nine. Bandai has been confirmed as the first licensee to roll out product with its toy line scheduled to debut at UK retail just in time for Christmas 2011. New partners just announced include TV Mania who is on-board for children’s apparel focusing on t-shirts and hoodies and Cooneen has taken the licence for children’s nightwear and underwear. Zeon is planning a range of watches, bags and gifts for adults and children which will feature classic artwork and imagery from the new ThunderCats series and Gemma International
will be bringing a range of paper party wear, greeting cards and gift wrap to market. The latest licensees to sign up to the ThunderCats programme will be in great company as they join master toy licensee Bandai who will be launching an electrifying toy range that will include 4 inch basic action figures, 8 inch classic collector figures, a Deluxe ThunderTank Vehicle with Figure, Deluxe Roleplay Sword, Staction PVC Figurines and high quality collectable Limited Edition Porcelain Statues. Award winning licensee MV Sports is on-
board for wheeled toys and scooters, Rubies will be producing dress up for adults and children, Character World will be producing branded bedding and Panini will be publishing the first ThunderCats magazine. The ThunderCats licensing programme will be supported by all-new content in the form of an animated series that is due to hit UK TV screens in Q3 2011. Launching exclusively on Cartoon Network in August 2011, ThunderCats will be on-air every Saturday morning until the October half term holiday when
it will be available to view every weekday at 6pm and 8pm as well as Saturday morning through to Christmas. The series marks a creative collaboration
between Warner. Bros. Animation (WBA) and Studio4°C — one of the most vibrant animation studios in Japan — and is a 21st century re-imagining of the iconic action- packed 1980s series. Paul Bufton, General Manager, Warner Bros. Consumer Products UK says, “The fact that we’ve signed nine licensing deals before the new ThunderCats TV series has even been broadcast is an great indication of our partner’s faith in the potential of the ThunderCats franchise. Whilst ThunderCats is being treated as an exciting new brand for boys, it is the only property competing in this space that also benefits from the nostalgic and powerful endorsement of parents who enjoyed ThunderCats as kids and are now thrilled to have the opportunity to share it with their own children. We’re confident that ThunderCats is on track to re-emerge as the UK’s hottest boys brand.”
