First edition. The first full-length study of Bawden’s work, including a bibliography of the artist’s illustrations for books, magazines, etc., compiled by Barry McKay.


Pasted in at the front is a large colour photograph of Edward Bawden with the author and art historian Bevis Hillier, whose copy this was. The picture shows Bawden and Hillier seated in the former’s garden at Saffron Walden in 1979. Also laid in is a letter of appreciation from Bawden to Bevis Hillier dated 20 November 1979 and written on the artist’s headed notepaper.

Pickering Diamond Classic, large paper copy. The second edition of Horace in the Diamond Classic series. The first edition was not produced in large paper format. Horace was the only author in the series to be printed in two editions.
