One of 50 copies “printed on a small hand-press, San Francisco”, signed in pencil by Valenti Angelo. Angelo used the Golden Cross imprint for books he published but were printed by someone else. He had earlier (1960) issued True Charity from his own private press for distribution by the Chiswick Press.

The initial on this page illustrates the Fable of A Gall’d Ass and Raven.
Gooden’s illustrated Aesop was issued in an edition of 525 copies on hand- made paper and 8 copies on vellum. It is considered to be Gooden’s magnum opus and is one of the finest C20th illustrated editions of Aesop.
