“Of this edition of La Fontaine’s Tales only a limited number will be printed [actual number not stated], and the Society undertake that it shall never be reprinted. To make that certain, directly after printing a number of the plates will be destroyed and others distributed among the subscribers.” (printed note at the front of Vol. 1).

This copy (No. 3) additionally inscribed by Pinter on the title-page “Ned Erbe best wishes Harold Pinter”. Ned Erbe was director of publicity for New Directions in the 50’s and 60’s.
