Hallfield School Triumph at Chess Championships

On June 19th Mr Hunt, Mr Shackleton and 18 Hallfield mini-masters set off for Pontins in Prestatyn to take part in the semi-finals of the National Primary Schools Championships, run by the English Primary Schools Chess Association.

Two Under 9 teams and one Under 11 team had qualified via an earlier competition in Birmingham. The Under 9 A team were confident of a good result having finished 3rd in the National Finals last year. Nevertheless their performance exceeded even their best hopes – finishing first on 23.5 points (out of 30) leaving their arch-rivals Nottingham HS trailing behind in second place with 22 points.

Hallfield dominate qualifying event

Children from Hallfield’s Chess teams had another very successful performance in the qualifying round of the National Primary Schools Chess Championships.

The Under 11 team were exceptional in winning gold medals – with a superb score of 22.5/25 leaving Blue Coat well behind in second place with 19.5.

We had two teams in the Under 9 section, in which we finished in 3rd place nationally last year. The ‘A’ team duly collected the gold medals with a winning score of 21/25, followed by Blue Coat with 18 and our ‘B’ team winning the bronze medals with an amazing 16/25.

All of our teams qualified to play in the National semi-finals which will take place at Pontins in Prestatyn in June.
