Upper School Sports Day

After two postponed dates, the Sports Day finally got underway on Wednesday in the last week of term. Starting with the tug-of-war, each year group battled to win valuable points for their houses.

Congratulations to Nowers who won the trophy.

Boys’ Games

Football:

We showed good strength in depth in Under 10 and Under 9 age groups, with the ‘B’ teams having a good playing record.

Colts team played well considering the small number of boys available, acquitting themselves well in all matches.

Rugby:

Colts struggled in their 12-a-side matches against strong sides.

The Under 10 team made a massive improvement from the year before.

The Under 9 team played very well in some exciting fixtures. There was a lot of movement between the ‘A‘ and ‘B’ teams, with well over 20 boys playing for the school, all to a fairly high standard.

Cricket:

Rain was the dominant force.

Colts played some good cricket against West House and KES Under 12 ‘B’ team, with Edward Saunders scoring two half centuries in the season.

The Under 10 team has a lot to learn. The Under 9 team showed some promise in their three matches, winning two of them.

Staff were beaten by the parents at cricket…it had to happen some day!

Girls’ Games

Hockey:

The Under 9 team shone on the hockey field. Although many of their matches were fought in the rain they showed a determination to win. As a result they had a successful season.

The Vixens and Under 10s also enjoyed the hockey season. The Vixens with some Under 10s played well at the Indoor tournament at Blue Coat and narrowly missed winning the cup.

Netball:

The Vixens struggled in the netball season. Although they were skilled at shooting, the team lacked speed moving around the court. After working on flexibility of movement the girls started to improve and finished the season by winning the plate at the Prestfelde Tournament.

The Under 10s and Under 9s both had a mixed season – winning, drawing and losing some matches. However both of the teams played well and should make good progress next year.

Rounders:

Unfortunately the bad weather played a large part in the rounders season. A strong Under 10s team donimated the fixtures by winning all of their matches. The superb fielding of the Under 10s is their strength and this enabled the girls to have easy wins over EHS and Blue Coat.

The Vixens and Under 9s also had a fairly successful season. Many games ended in a draw or a very close scoreline.
