recently underwent a renovation that has
restored it to its original 1860 splendor.
Like the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles on
which this ballroom is modeled, it evokes
the feel of centuries gone by. Today, the
space boasts uncovered stained-glass
windows and new chandeliers that
helped recreate its grand atmosphere.
The space is much brighter now with por-
traits of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and
Beethoven along with scenes from
Mozart operas decorating the facility. The
Academy of Music is managed by the
Kimmel Center. Once home to the
Philadelphia Orchestra’s Chamber Music
series, the ballroom is ideal for recep-
tions, corporate functions, and special
events for up to 250 people. In addition,
the Academy's Rehearsal Hall offers
6,100 square feet of space and can also
accommodate a wide range of functions
for as many as 375 reception-style.
Doubletree Hotel Philadelphia recently
completed renovations to its 432 guest
rooms. The room upgrades are the sec-
ond phase in a three-phase $13.1 million
project that began with the construction
of the 4,200-square-foot Assembly on
Five - a full-service meeting center, and
concludes with the renovation of the hotel
lobby and swimming pool in late 2009.
The Four Seasons Hotel renovated its
Swann Lounge and all meeting and func-
tion space except for the ballroom. Each
room was outfitted with state-of-the-art
technology. The boardrooms located on
guest floors were renovated also.
The Omni Hotel at Independence Park
completed a $4 million renovation in
December 2008. The hotel refreshed its
guestrooms and all of its public areas,
including its on site restaurant.
A yet-to-be-named 260-room upscale
hotel is being considered for 30th and
Market streets, while a 140-room
SpringHill Suites by Marriott is expected
to be added at the Airport Marketplace.
