ATS Releases Heat Sinks for DC-DC Converters

Norwood, MA — Advanced Thermal Solutions (ATS) has released its new maxiFLOW™ family of high-per- formance heat sinks designed to cool DC-DC power converters and power modules. The power brick heat sinks are available for full, half, quarter, and one-eighth brick sizes. With proper thermal

man agement, brick DC-DC converters can be used at their maximum operating temperature for the best per- formance on a PCB. According to the compa-

ny, its new family of heat sinks reduces junction tem- peratures by more than 20 percent. The patented spread- fin heat sink design allows for cooling performance in low- airflow environments. The spread-fin pattern

reduces pressure drop on passing air and provides more sur- face area for heat dissipation and convection cooling. The ATS brick DC-DC heat

sinks are provided with Philips head screw sets in 5, 6 and 8 mm (0.2, 0.24

and 0.31 in.) lengths. The company ships them pre-assembled with a high-performance thermal interface material.

Creform Intros Reel Handling Cart

Greer, SC — Some of the more diffi- cult products to handle in a produc- tion environment are reels and spools of wire and hose. Cre - form has designed a cart specifically to hold reels and spools for delivery to the pro- duction floor, as well as being used for the storage of sup- plies next to the line. The carts are custom con -

figurable with many adjust - able positions. This makes it easy to add, reduce or reposi- tion the spools with basic hand tools.

The carts are configured

for narrow reels, but the dividers used to keep prod- ucts separated can be moved easily to create wider bays. Spools and reels are support- ed by their rims, which aids in loading and unloading, and the dividers prevent them from tangling. Constructed of both 28 and 42

mm (1.1 and 1.65 in.) diameter pipe, the critical long spans of the cart use the larger size, while the smaller pipe is used for the rest of the frame. The cart comes with four 6 in. (152 mm) casters — two that swivel and two that are fixed. The company offers a wide vari- ety of pipe and color options. In addi-

tion, carts can include a hitch for tow- ing, and a tie-bar connects the front of the cart to the latch at the back, which

makes it easy to tow multiple carts at one time. The modular design affords the opportunity to add only the acces- sories required. Other accessories include label holders, clipboard hangers and tool

Cognex Enters Mobile Terminal Market

Natick, MA — Cognex Corporation, a supplier of machine vision systems and industrial barcode readers, has developed a new line of ruggedized mobile terminals. The MX-1000 series offers manufacturers, logistics companies, and many other organizations that currently rely on expen- sive and purpose-built terminals, a new method of performing such tasks as inventory manage- ment, logistics and field service. The MX-1000 com-

bines the ease-of-use, low- cost and flexibility of off- the-shelf smart phones with a rugged, handheld assembly that holds both the phone and a specially designed barcode reader. According to the com- pany, the barcode reader outperforms many laser-based and camera-based systems. The initial versions of the

mobile terminal will offer the capa- bility of reading both 1D and 2D bar- codes, but the hardware in each unit is a complete vision engine that does more than simply read barcodes. The

company plans to add other vision- based capabilities, such as OCR,

package dimensioning and inspec- tion. When paired with an Android or iOS device, the MX-1000 uses DataMan® technology to read bar- codes reliably, even in difficult condi-

tions. Contact: Cognex Corporation,
