in Germany Auburn, MA — PI (Physik Instrumente), a precision motion and nanoposition- ing specialist, has begun to build a new technology center at its worldwide headquarters in Karlsruhe, Germany. After a year of planning, the corner- stone was ceremoniously laid. In its current space, PI employs over 400 peo- ple in Karlsruhe. At the ceremony, attended by political figures and industry guests, Dr. Karl Spanner, founder and president of the company, stated that due to PI’s activity in the high-tech sector, and its investment in R&D, the new facility is necessary to maintain its position in the world market for posi- tioning. The new center is over 100,000 ft2 (9,300 m2) and includes 200 work- places, laboratories, environmental chambers, and an auditorium for semi- nars and training events. Expected to open in early 2017, the center will bring

Creative Electron Acquires FocalSpot
San Marcos, CA — Creative Electron, a manufacturer of X-ray inspection sys- tems, has acquired the legacy MXI service business, FocalSpot, from Nordson MatriX-FocalSpot. The acquisition includes services for FocalSpot, Nicolet and Faxitron system brands. The move makes Creative Electron the only authorized service provider for these legacy systems, thus consolidating the company’s po- sition as an X-ray service provider. Current owners of FocalSpot, Nicolet and other legacy X-ray machines now have access to the Creative Electron customer support infrastructure. The company’s growing refurbished business also allows customers to maximize the value of their current X-ray
