Spinnaker: Where Partnerships Are as Important as Technology

repeatability. Incorporating a dual-track transport system, the machine has been designed for high- throughput and flexibility in the smallest possible space. To make the system more versatile, the sol- dering system is based on a modular platform. De- pending on the application and on its throughput requirements, additional flux, preheat and solder modules can be included in the system. In its max- imum configuration, the platform can operate with up to three solder modules, each of which can be configured with two mini-wave solder baths. In to- tal, up to six mini-wave solder baths can be in- stalled, and each module can be preceded by a pre- heat unit. Additional features include a

high-end selective soldering system for integration into in-line manufac- turing processes, mini-wave solder- ing for high flexibility, or multi-wave soldering for high-volume applica- tions. With its multi-wave process, products can be changed without the loss of production time, and the ma- chine can process boards in parallel through the separation of the flux- ing, preheating and soldering cycle. It can be fitted with up to four flux spray heads, can be flexibly config- ured, and includes a CAD assistant for off-line programming. The sys- tem can be joined to manual work- stations or peripheral equipment easily and provides secure process control with its monitoring of all rel- evant processes, as well as offering a link for traceability systems. The Versaflow system was pur-

chased to help Spinnaker provide strong selective solder capability across numerous markets. “Our fo- cus is to provide electronics manu- facturing services to customers whose products are too complex for smaller contract manufacturers, but whose volume requirements do not interest large-scale EMS providers, or those that need greater collabora- tion during the early stages of a new product introduction,” adds Nicker- son.

Capable and Competent With more than 40 years of ex-

perience in electronics manufactur- ing, Spinnaker strives to create and cultivate loyal and longterm rela- tionships with both customers and partners. Its mission is to get the job done right the first time. To do so, the EMS company works with a di- verse customer base on projects ranging from material procurement, cable and wire harness production and PCB population to full electro- mechanical assemblies and box builds. Its team of professionals sup- ports every stage of a project’s devel- opment from prototype to full pro- duction. The company prides itself on its

flexibility, the teamwork of its em- ployees, and its up-to-date automa- tion. Certified to ISO 13485 and 9001:2008 standards, Spinnaker places emphasis on automation in order to bolster its procedures, keep delivery on time, assure competitive pricing, and to promote lean manu- facturing. In addition to ISO stan- dards, the company holds IPC 610 Class 1/2/3, IPC 620 Class 1/2/3, ITAR, UL, CSA, and RoHS/lead-free certifications. As technology develops global- ly, the company has evolved to meet

new demands, especially in the areas of dynamic production runs, new product introductions, and mixed-technology assemblies. In addition, the com- pany focuses on providing low-cost services, zero defect products, dock-to-stock logistics, quality im- provement, and design for manufacturability. Spinnaker specializes in new product intro-

duction, testing and complex projects in low-to- medium volumes for the RF microwave and assem- bly, telecommunications, life sciences, defense, semiconductor, industrial, medical, and aerospace sectors. In order to be successful in such a variety of markets, the company must constantly evaluate its list of fundamental services by adapting to the rapid shifts in technology. “Our core competency is electronics contract manufacturing, and with some

of the fastest equipment in New England, our tech- nology and team get customers’ products to market fast,” says Nickerson. “Our commitment to quality ensures the highest reliability.” Whether customers have a new product to in-

troduce, a quick-turn requirement or want to com- pletely outsource a product using the company’s turnkey service, Spinnaker has the expertise and resources to respond. “We are only as strong as our partnerships,” concludes Nickerson. “With Ersa, we are proud to say that we’re rock solid and have every intention of continuing on this path.” Contact: Spinnaker Contract Manufacturing,
