Page 63 Dymax Conformal Coating Receives UL Certification

Torrington, CT — Dymax Dual Cure 9482 has received UL flammability and electrical standards certification for materials used in PCBs. The UV- curable conformal coating, formulated specially to cure in shadowed areas underneath components on a board, now meets UL 746-E (electrical) and UL 94-VO (flammability) standards. Formulated with UV-curing and a secondary

moisture cure, the material achieves UL 94-VO flammability rating up to 10 mils thick, which makes it suitable for environmental protection of PCBs, wire harnesses, electronic components, and other surfaces that need protective coating. It passes thermal shock tests at temperatures from –55 to +135°C (–67 to +275°F) at 10 mils. The certification was given after rigorous

testing and complements existing test standards for the 9482 series, which include the MIL-I-

UV-curable conformal coating.

46058C (IPC-CC-830) standard, and is also RoHS- compliant. The material has been engineered for coating

thicknesses up to 0.254 mm (0.01 in.) while offer- ing protection. It becomes tack-free immediately after curing, which helps to avoid handling defects that may affect boards if they are touched too soon. In addition, it is re-workable, which is of particu- lar importance to manufacturers of expensive PCBs, or to customers looking to increase board

yields. Contact: Dymax Corp., 318 Industrial Lane,
