Next Generation Rail conference heads to MOSI
The Rail Research UK Association (RRUKA), Young Railway Professionals and FutureRailway are to host the second Next Generation Rail conference from 11-13 June.
The event at the Museum of Science of Industry (MOSI) in Manchester has been designed for
early-career researchers and young
professionals who would like to enhance their career in the rail industry.
Following on from last year’s success at The Crystal in London, attended by RTM, the conference brings together academics and engineers from across the rail industry to promote rail to a younger audience.
At the event, there will be opportunities to discover, develop and learn new skills
to
support career development. RTM, as this year’s official media partner, has seen first- hand that the conference provides an excellent forum for knowledge sharing and networking with rail leaders and educators.
At last year’s Next Generation Rail, Nicole Badstuber from University College London won the best research presentation for her work on the introduction of aerospace materials to rail. She won a placement with
There will also be four competitions run during the conference, which include:
• Best Academic Presentation (Award: £50 + industry placement) • Best Industry Case Study Presentation (Award: £100)
• Best Collaborative Project Presentation (Award: £200 for double-act presentations) • Best Poster (Award: £100)
Alstom and a £100 prize.
The conference is open to all young rail professionals, rail-related PhD students (either currently studying or completed within the last two years), rail-related post-doc and early- career researchers, and rail masters students. Registration closes on 2 June. Visit:

In addition to presentations from industry insiders, topic experts will run two sessions of SkillShops (one on Thursday and one on Friday). These are 1.5 hour workshops where delegates have the opportunity to improve existing and gain new skills and learn how to best put them into practice in the day-to-day job through some useful exercises.
