nderton Concrete Products Ltd is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of pre-cast concrete products, with over 50 years’ experience.
Fully supported by an experienced sales and technical team, Anderton has full Network Rail Approval status and Link-up accreditation and has successfully supplied many prestigious schemes, including Crossrail, Thameslink and the West Coast Main Line Upgrade.
Following on from the success of achieving ISO 9001:2008 certification for its Quality Management System, Anderton Concrete has now achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification for the Environmental Management System at its Northwich site. These accreditations reinforce Anderton’s policy of continuous improvement throughout all aspects of the business and demonstrate the commitment and responsibility it has undertaken towards achieving industry best practice.
Anderton Concrete manufactures a variety of products for the rail industry designed to comply
with Network Rail standards, including the C1 range of troughing products (Certificate No. PA05/00318), which incorporates straights, Tee pieces, transitions and curves.
The latest addition to the range is the revolutionary Anderlite Lightweight Troughing System (Certificate No. PA05/05810). Anderlite is up to 50% cheaper than alternative lightweight systems and has an identical product profile to the traditional product, so a transition from system to system is seamless. The system reduces the risk of manual handling, with a reduction in weight versus standard concrete of up to 30%. This offers transport savings of up to 20%.
The troughing portfolio is supplemented by the widest range of complementary pre-cast products available to the UK rail market. This range includes platform copings, oversailing blocks, drainage catchpits, signal bases, point rod rollers and many other ancillary products, all used extensively throughout the rail infrastructure. Furthermore, the company has recently announced that it will
be launching two pioneering route security systems later this year: Ander-Clip and Ander-Fin are designed to prevent the unauthorised removal of trough lids, thus safeguarding all standard power and telecommunication systems.

Employee wellbeing – a rail priority
In addition to complying with health & safety legislation, more and more rail companies are realising that good employee health management reduces sickness absence, enhances productivity and contributes to increased staff morale. Laura Barker, general manager at rail-focused occupational health provider Healthcare Connections, discusses how the smartest businesses are thinking more strategically about organisational wellbeing.

tatistics show that 131 million days were lost due to sickness absences in the UK in highlighting
the preventative approach to need for keeping a more employees
healthy. Occupational health providers have historically been delivering legally required services in the main within this safety critical industry, but in recent years an increasing focus
has developed in rail for employee
wellbeing programmes to proactively address workplace absence and ill-health.
Healthcare Connections always has early
intervention in mind for customers and a strong emphasis is put on ensuring there is return on investment for health services.
As we work, we are seeing more and more of our rail clients recognising these benefits and establishing ongoing employee health, wellbeing and engagement services with us. It really is as simple as ‘improve the health and wellbeing of your workforce and improve your business health overall’.
The wellbeing offering to the client base includes convenient onsite wellbeing services, with mobile clinical teams visiting the workplace to conduct ‘Health Essentials’ checks – mini-health checks using quick diagnostic tools to address key areas for health and wellness concern, act on these quickly and begin the process of putting together a health profile for the business.
Of course, optimal engagement of employees is all-important in this pursuit, and regular workplace wellbeing days are proving very popular educational touchpoints, as they create knowledge of the health issues for rail-specific job roles and highlight key services available to the workers, which are not always clearly known.
