For the latest show news and updates follow #ISE2014 BakPak network management on the go PAKEDGE

The newly updated BakPak Cloud- and smartphone-based app from Pakedge is claimed to save installers time and money by providing fully functioning, remote access to every one of their projects. It promises to reduce the time, cost and complexity typically associated with network configuration, management and maintenance in commercial and residential applications. “360°, system-wide, remote access is essential for installers seeking to improve their service offering and business

profitability,” said Victor Pak, president and CEO of Pakedge. “Our improved BakPak app gives Pakedge integrators the freedom to set up, monitor and maintain their customers’ systems, as well as store and back up data, from wherever they are in the world.” The free app provides full

remote access to networks via an iPad, iPhone, Android device or web browser, and allows installers to automatically discover then configure and manage Pakedge products and other manufacturers’ devices on the network. They can review diagnostics, uptime and

Security cameras with Total Control

AMBER INTERNATIONAL

Recognising that security plays a vital role in whole house automation these days, URC – which is exhibiting on the Amber International stand – has designed a range of surveillance cameras which can be integrated with its Total Control system.

On the Amber International booth are the new CAM-DC1 and CAM-DCO cameras, which are available in two options: as an unobtrusive indoor mini-dome, or a tough, vandal-proof outdoor dome camera. Offering H.264/MJPEG compression, motion detection, web-based set- up, administration, control and upgrade, the CAM-DC1 keeps in control via a 32-bit embedded CPU running Linux. Visitors to ISE 2014 also have the opportunity to find out more about the new MRX-4SEN Sensor

Extender and six new sensors that expand the power of the Total Control system and enable new control possibilities. Individual sensors observe the presence of video, light, audio, current, voltage or contact closure. Status is conveyed through the compact MRX-4SEN to the MRX Advanced Network Controller to trigger actions or macros. The MRX-2 Network Base Station is described as bridging the digital divide between control of the client’s legacy components and the IP network. Acting as a Total Control sub-base station, it receives commands from an MRX- 10 and reissues them via IR, RS- 232 or relays. Each MRX-2 includes one relay, one sensor port, two RS-232 ports and six IR ports. The MRX-2 is claimed to be able to connect to virtually any device or component. Stand: 1-P18, 1-P19

The technology world is becoming increasingly IP- and network-based. What are the main challenges here for your market sector?

‘The biggest challenge is that there continues to be a strong divide between IT and AV. Some people in our industry get it; others are hugely dependent on external contractors to fill the knowledge void. The entire industry has to start facing the fact that they are in the networking business and we should be

moving more towards IT/AV convergence.’ Robin van Meeuwen, VP, Crestron International

‘The rapid change in networked visualisation technology requires new skills from everyone in the industry chain: manufacturers, resellers, integrators, consultants but also end-users. We started delivering network-based solutions that are easy to use, install and manage several years

ago, and one of the challenges of this evolution is that it requires the right training and up-to-date know-how.’ Fredrik Sjostedt, VP corporate marketing, Barco

‘Obviously the greatest challenge (or threat) is safety and security. With the ease of installation and use of such systems we do all forget about security and reliability. The main challenge in the (digital) AV world still is compatibility of different devices, which is what we are addressing with a

dedicated AV network protocol that unifies the communication within AV devices – focusing on reliability.’ Tobias Stumpfl, commercial director, AV Stumpfl

downtime, manage network appliances, store and back up customer data and perform remote system reboots across multiple projects 24/7, eliminating site visits. Entire network-based systems

can be monitored in real-time. Full project and system visibility are possible in an at-a-glance view from a single dashboard. The app enables installers to remotely power cycle the Power over Ethernet ports on Pakedge switches and power distribution units. It can also alert installers in the event of a fault. Reduce power consumption TSL PRODUCTS

Showcasing its full range of basic and intelligent power management products is TSL Products. These include its smart power management dashboard, PsiMon with Eco Power Mapping, and its Vertical Intelligent Power (VIP) distribution unit. Chris Exelby, managing

director, TSL Products, said: “Systems managers are increasingly faced with guaranteed uptime targets across diversely located equipment facilities. In today’s cost-

conscious and environmentally sensitive world, streamlining maintenance and support teams and minimising energy consumption is paramount. We’ve developed our power management range with these challenges in mind.” Any facility that depends on

rack-mounted equipment can, says the company, save on power consumption, staff and energy costs, as TSL’s power distribution units enable systems managers to monitor and control all rack- mounted equipment remotely and to efficiently manage power

requirements while reducing overall costs. The new Vertical Intelligent

Power (VIP) distribution unit provides all the power and features of the TSL Products intelligent power distribution line in a vertical format. This design not only maximises rack space but streamlines the installation and configuration of rack- mounted equipment, offering users the option to mix and match between basic and intelligent power configurations to suit the specific application. Boost efficiency with Haidy HAIDY

Czech home automation systems provider Haidy is presenting a number of its products and demonstrating the Haidy HA system interface, which boasts key management functions of heat pump systems, A/C, heat recovery

units and heating systems. Haidy says the interface is one of the major selling propositions of its product portfolio. In addition, the company says that both its product lines (Haidy Plus and Haidy Home) make it easy and intuitive for users to set up and manage technical systems, so that maximum energy

savings are possible. The company adds that this is the ultimate winning combination when it comes to satisfying its customers: making significant savings achievable while delivering products with more comfort-oriented features. Stand: 7-N210
