NEWS Show control takes flight AV STUMPFL

Wings is the name given to the extensive range of show control solutions by AV Stumpfl, and includes the Wings Engine, Wings Vioso, Wings Touch, Wings IOBox and the Wings Avio protocol – all of which can be seen on the company’s ISE 2014 stand. Wings Vioso is software that

allows for complete multimedia presentations to be designed and delivered. In pre-production, it allows editing, compositing and the use of real-time effects. It supports a broad range of video codecs. Wings Vioso also handles automatic (as well as manual) edge blending and warping, while the ability to record and play back DMX signals allows for the

synchronisation of light with other show components. The key hardware element of

AV Stumpfl’s offering is provided by the Wings Engine, a media server with up to four DVI outputs, six 64-bit Intel cores, a pair of SSDs for rapid access to operating system and media files. A Stage version is available that is housed in a 19in 5RU custom case and that is shock-proof and fitted with Neutrik connectors. Wings Touch allows for the

creation of interactive user interfaces that are intuitive and appealing, and can be used to create interfaces for either visitors or in-house staff. Four modules are currently

available in the Wings IOBox family, a range of intelligent hardware modules. These

Bee 8 records and streams media REACH

A brand new media recording and streaming device launched at the end of 2013 is the focus for exhibitor Reach. Running an embedded system, the Bee 8 is a 1U height, 19in rack- mountable device. With three DVI-I inputs, it supports two video- and one VGA

input, and records these signals with audio synchronously. The video inputs support standard definition and high definition up to 1080p/60. The format of the recorded file is MP4, which Reach says makes it easy to play back and work with Windows Media Player, QuickTime, VLC and many other video players.

The Bee 8 has 1TB of internal

storage as well as a USB port on the front panel. According to Reach, any user can quickly record files directly to the USB device or download recorded files to the USB device. Start/pause/ stop recording buttons on the front panel let the user control recording. Reach also provides an iPad app, in which the user can monitor audio and video signals

and control the operation of Bee 8 with an iPad. It is, says the company, simple enough to be operated by any user with no technical background.

The Bee 8 supports an RTSP

live streaming function and is said to be able to satisfy most small- scale live streaming

requirements. The addition of Reach’s Media Center allows the Bee 8 to participate in large-scale live streaming and video file publishing applications. Stand: 1-E56, 1-E58

New repeater boosts flexible system planning GIRA

The DCS repeater is a component for expanding a Gira door communication system with audio or video function. It can be mounted in the current

distributor, just like the video multiplexer, video amplifier and video distributor. The product is for range

extension and increasing the number of devices. In addition, the DCS repeater amplifies the

audio and data signals of the door communication system in both directions, as well as the outgoing video signal, which allows both the cable length and the number of devices in a door intercom to be doubled.

According to Gira, this

feature-set makes the DCS repeater the ideal solution for large buildings with an abundance of residential units. It expands the range of the audio signal to 1.2km (for a total cable

length of 4.8km for the door communication system) and the video signal to 600m (for a total cable length of 1.2km). The Gira DCS repeater is

available now. Stand: 7-P180

Wings Avio is a network

protocol that provides the infrastructure for the Wings AV system. It is said that almost any

device with a LAN or serial interface can be integrated into an Avio network. Stand: 1-H3, 1-H6
