AIR CANADA’S BIG NEWS in 2013 was the launch of its leisure subsidiary Air Canada Rouge in July. From May 2014 it will take over the mainline carrier’s previously summer-only Dublin-Toronto route, making it a year-round service. A milestone for the mainline brand was the launch of a premium economy product on the first of five new B777-300ERs that it took delivery of in summer 2013. Premium economy seats offer 38 inches of legroom and are in a 2-4-2 configuration. Passengers also get premium meals and a free bar. The cabin debuted on the Paris-Montreal route in July 2013 and will come to London Heathrow in 2014. More premium economy cabins will appear on 37 new B787 Dreamliners when these start arriving from 2014.  Visit www.aircanada.com

AMERICAN AIRLINES (AA) introduced its first ever fully-flat business seat, with new seats in economy, business and first, at the beginning of 2013 when the airline received its B777-300ERs – these are deployed on transatlantic routes, including the London to Dallas, Los Angeles and New York JFK services. AA’s first A321 was delivered in November 2013 – a three-class aircraft with five rows of fully- flat first class seating configured 1-1; five rows of fully-flat business class seating configured 2-2; and 12 rows of economy configured 3-3.
