ONLINE TRAVEL TRAINING SPECIALIST OTT has recently relaunched a Lounge Pass course. Lounge Pass has more than 200 airport VIP lounges in its programme, in almost 50 countries around the world, and offers an online booking service with downloadable confirmations that feature directions, and can be presented at the lounge. The course is in four modules, which include product facilities, information on the extended-stay lounges at 12 transit airports, a guide to pre-booking, and selling tips for agents. FIVE BIDDERS VIE FOR SCOTRAIL FRANCHISE


FIVE RAIL COMPANIES have been shortlisted by the Scottish government in the contest to run the Scotrail franchise from spring 2015. The firms include incumbent operator, First Group, as well as Arriva, National Express, MTR

from Hong Kong, and Dutch firm Abellio. Scotrail operates 95 per cent of train services in Scotland. The bid winner is due to be announced in the autumn, and will start running the ten-year franchise from April 2015.

HOTELS Marriott: African deal


MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL HAS AGREED a deal to buy the brands and management business of South African hotel operator Protea Hospitality Group. The planned transaction would almost double Marriott’s portfolio in Africa to more than 23,000 rooms.


Protea currently operates or franchises 116 hotels with a total of 10,184 rooms in South Africa and six other African countries (Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia).

How could CEB benefit travel buyers? If we were advising a buyer or procurement officer, we would


give them a clear sense of what they can and should demand from suppliers. If you could change attitudes internally and influence travel demand patterns – when to book it, how to book it – you could reduce the overall cost of travel rather than travel spending. But a buyer is also in a unique position to leverage suppliers to educate travellers, so we would give corporate travel buyers some tools to take out cost and motivate them to manage and incentivise suppliers, to educate them and add value to the buyer’s business system. What are you going to do to make my business better? What do your best customers do that we don’t?
