Shangri-La Paris extends wellness facilities 32
France: Shangri-La Hotel, Paris has unveiled its new wellness retreat, including fi tness facilities, a swimming pool with an outdoor terrace and a beauty treatment centre with an exclusive treatment menu by Carita. The vision of interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, a long-time collaborator of the Parisian hotel, the health club is located in what were originally the stables used by Prince Roland Bonaparte. Created as a ‘hidden sanctuary’, the 500sqm wellness space has been designed in-keeping with the building’s classical French architecture and high, vaulted ceilings, with a serene colour palette
comprising watery blues and celadon green. A wrap- around mezzanine overlooking the pool offers access to large treatment rooms and the fi tness area, while a trompe l’oeil sky motif on the ceiling is intended to extend an invitation for guests to slow down and relax. General Manager Alain Borgers explained: “Our
wish was to create a distinctive, relaxing getaway within the exceptional experience that Shangri-La offers. The space is the culmination of several years’ consideration and to fi nd a haven dedicated to wellness, bathed in natural light, is a unique feature in Paris.”

BABTAC and CIBTAC to improve laser standards
UK: Two leading beauty and cosmetology organisations have teamed up to help improve the training standards for laser treatment professionals. The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology
(BABTAC) and The Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (CIBTAC) are moving to introduce specifi c parameters within laser and IPL treatments to ensure good practice and safeguard both therapists and consumers. The latest BABTAC Corporate Taskforce discussion
focused on laser and IPL and concluded that minimum standards should be set and introduced for BABTAC and CIBTAC members within the next three years. These standards focused on four core criteria; establishing an effi cient and standardised treatment records system; continuous professional development; therapists attaining a minimum level of qualifi cation to carry out laser/IPL treatments; and the introduction of an approved manufacturers and models register, which meets EU and UK guidelines where applicable.
