Heinz Schletterer gives a masterclass in exceptional spa design at Switzerland’s Aspen Alpine Lifestyle Hotel


chletterer International Group’s portfolio of planning, design and consultancy spans four continents and includes a wide range of unique wellness destinations and beautifully realised spa hotels. Founded by Heinz Schletterer in the 1980s, the group focuses on providing each client with an individual and highly profitable spa concept, while its expertise


also spans the medi-spa market, revealing how innovative and forward-looking the company remains after more than 20 years. As well as the Mohr Life Resort in Austria, the Farnham Estate Health Spa in Cavan, Ireland


and the Andreus Golf & Spa Resort in Italy, Schletterer created the spa within the Aspen Alpine Lifestyle Hotel in Switzerland’s Grindelwald region. Built in a classic Swiss chalet style, the hotel is enviably located next to the hiking trails


and ski slopes of the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen area and its 4,300sqm spa and hotel was opened in August 2012.


Designed to harness the power of its unique Alpine surroundings, the spa includes an


invigorating range of wellness experiences such as a large wood sauna, herbal steambath and exclusive outdoor whirlpool, with direct access from the ski slopes during winter-time. The Grindelwald region, dominated by the world-famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau


mountain peaks, was a direct reference point for the spa’s concept. “The prevailing themes of the region – and consequently also of the spa – are impressive mountains, reinvigorating outdoor adventures and fascinating nature,” explains Schletterer. He continues by reflecting that the Aspen concept aimed to create a spa in the Alps that could also bring the Alps into the spa. “The clear and straightforward design reflects the freshness and wildlife of the Alps,” he continues, “while the spa experiences draw upon the rich
