The Spa Business Association (SpaBA) and British International Spa Association (BISA) have joined together to create a new UK organisation. The resulting
association will be JW Marriott to make Italian debut in 2014
Italy: Marriott International is to open its fi rst hotel and spa in Italy, in 2014, on the private island of Sacca Sessola, near Venice.

Spa, located a short boat ride away from Venice, will be operated under a management agreement with an affi liate of Aareal Bank AG. Designed by Matteo Thun & Partners of Milan, the
resort will be located among the island’s olive groves and private gardens. With a strong focus on wellbeing, facilities will include a large spa, health club, and indoor,
outdoor and rooftop swimming pools. President and Managing Director for Marriott International in Europe, Amy McPherson, said: “Introducing JW Marriott to Venice is an exciting time for the brand as Venice continues to be one of the most desirable destination in the world, famous for its stunning architecture, art and culture. We are delighted to offer our guests the distinctly unique setting of Sacca Sessola coupled with the elegance and intuitive service synonymous with the JW Marriott brand.”

She added: “By matching our strengths with SpaBA’s priorities, we know the industry will be better represented at both national and international levels.” The new association will relaunch under a new name in early April.

Facebook app boosts sales at Bad Ragaz
Austria: Leading Austrian software supplier TAC has successfully harnessed Facebook as an additional sales channel for the Tamina Therme spa at the luxury Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, in Switzerland. Since December 2012, consumers have been able
to book Tamina Therme treatments and purchase gift certifi cates via the resort’s website as well as the thermal spa’s Facebook page, created by TAC. Ronny Schieler, Systems Manager at the Grand
Resort Bad Ragaz, said: “The sales fi gures generated since the Facebook app’s integration has proved that our investment was very worthwhile.”
